Fearless Doubt

Are we brave enough to know about how cruel the truth can be?

Fearless Doubt

“It’s sometimes good to be a fool.”I signed when I finished reading Katherine Crighton’s “The Lies We Tell Our Children”. We could find out how cruel the truth is when we doubt the basic idea of life.

The novel reminds me of an TV episode called “Beyond the Aquila Rift” of “Love, Death & Robots”, and also the last scene of the famous comic “The Long Tomorrow”. In the first episode, the neat and tidy spaceship that people got into is not real. The place looks like spaceship in their dream. It is actually a sticky alien nest. Meanwhile, in the comic, the beautiful hot woman finally turned out to be an octopus-like alien.

We have to question the basic idea, the ordinary surroundings to get closer to the truth. In the novel, maybe the “mom” is actually an artificial intelligence operation system of the spaceship, or worse, perhaps she’s an alien too. But are we brave enough to know about how cruel the truth can be?
