The term FullDive Virtual Reality (FDVR) was introduced by Reki Kawahara in 2009 in the anime series, Sword Art Online. A FullDive VR system is essentially a brain-computer interface that enables the user to have a full immersive experience in the virtual world while they "dream" in the real physical world. The users have full sensory experience and can control their avatar just like in real life. They retain their memory from the real-world and are fully aware that they are immersed in a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG).

We see similar technology in Black Mirror Season 5: “Striking Vipers”.

If we can create decode our brain to that level, we could essentially get the same technology seen in James Cameron’s Avatar. Giving users the ability to control a bio-engineered avatar using a psionic “link unit”.

Hopefully, I get to contribute to this work of transferring our consciousness out of our body to a digital world or another body.
